Thomas MAYO married Emma Maria SMITH at St. Mark's Church, Gloucester, GLS

on 17 October 1869

 

Thomas was born 23 October 1850 at Little Ford House, Newent, GLS

He was a Boatman on the canal, moored at Droitwich, WOR in 1871 and Hednesford Wharf, STS in 1881.

By 1891, he was a Publican (at the Vine Inn, Kinver, STS) and Timber Merchant, and was a Coal and Timber Dealer at his death at The Acre, Kinver, STS on 21 February 1894.

 

Emma Maria was born circa 1850 at Gloucester, GLS

She died aged 26 of Phthisis (tuberculosis) at the County Lunatic Asylum, Powick, WOR on 18 January 1884

Their children were

Thomas Charles MAYO born circa 1871

Mary Jane MAYO born circa 1874

Alice Mayo born 21 October 1877

Below is a photo of my great grandmother Alice -it was in the form of a postcard sent to her future sister in law and says on the back:-

Dear Ada, Thanks for your very welcome letter I was glad to get it but why did you not send me a photo I am glad to tell you I feel much better, do you know I have been in bed nearly ever since I came back.  Yes dear, I am just longing to see the house Percy [her fiance] has taken, but the time will soon be here now.  I shall be home on the 26th so hope to see you, hope you will like this photo, with love your Algie [her nickname]  Photo taken Oxford July 27 1905

Thomas was born circa 1808 at Upleadon, GLS

He was an Agricultural Labourer, although in 1881 his occupation is stated as a Boatman

For a poor man, he lived an impressive length of time, dying in 1902

 

Caroline was born circa 1815 at Newent, GLS

She didn't manage to live as long as Thomas, but still had a good innings, dying in 1900.
