“A
Short History of Broadwell” by Joan Johnson states that the first recorded
reference to this village was in a charter from Coenred, king of Mercia,
granting the estate to the Abbey of Evesham.
Domesday
Book, 1086, records that Broadwell had 48 inhabitants.
Ownership
of the estate was transferred to lay people following the dissolution of Evesham
Abbey in 1539.
The
present church still has its original 12th century chancel walls, and
was enlarged in the 13th century.
