Broadwell

BRAIN, JAQUES

“A Short History of Broadwell” by Joan Johnson states that the first recorded reference to this village was in a charter from Coenred, king of Mercia, granting the estate to the Abbey of Evesham.

Domesday Book, 1086, records that Broadwell had 48 inhabitants.

Ownership of the estate was transferred to lay people following the dissolution of Evesham Abbey in 1539.

The present church still has its original 12th century chancel walls, and was enlarged in the 13th century.
