LAWRENCE married Ann BROWN at Great
Rissington, GLS
On
8 April 1765
John
was born circa 1742 place unknown
He
was a bound apprentice to William PRESTON of Great Rissington on 1 July 1758 @
£8 8s
He
became the Blacksmith of Kingham, and appears annually in the account books of
the Churchwardens, Constable and Fieldmen
He
left a “Day Book” which is preserved in Gloucester Record Office-it contains
accounts, what appear to be medicinal recipes, and at the back the births of his
children and some later entries, probably by his grandson
It
was a wonderful experience to be able to look through this little book over 200
years old that belonged to my direct ancestor-below is a verse taken from the
book:-
Praises
on Stones does but ambition feed
Let
Every one to Their own Ways take heed
What
I was and what you are
The
day of Judgment will declare
He
was buried 22 June 1822 at Kingham aged 80
