Percy GIBBONS was born 3 November 1885 in George St., St. Giles parish

He worked as a Stud Groom

Alice MAYO was a lady’s maid for Lady KENNEDY

Dorothy Margaret GIBBONS born 4 February 1912 at Pudlicote, near Shorthampton, OXF

 

In Oxford, the family lived above the Randolph Stables, Saville Road, where Percy worked

They moved to Swinburne Road; 2 Franklin’s Place, Castle St; 5 Addison Crescent; and finally 20 Donnington Lane

Henry GIBBONS married Annie WOODBRIDGE at

Witney parish church on 9 December 1876

 

Henry was born on 1 April 1852 at Speedwell St., St. Ebbes parish

In 1871, age 19 he was a Porter, in 1876 a Constable, in 1881 and thereafter a Coachman Domestic Servant

He died in 1912

Annie was born 21 July 1852 at Little Milton, OXF

In 1881 they were living at Beaumont Lodge, George St.

In 1891 the address is just George St. Summertown

Henry’s father was Henry GIBBONS whose first wife was Elizabeth BOYCE

Banns called April 1825

 

Henry was baptised 19 July 1805 at St. Mary Magdalen

He was a Tailor and is listed in Gardner’s Directory 1852 at 6 Thames St.

Henry & Elizabeth initially lived in Bridport St.

He died before 1871

Elizabeth Newland GIBBINS born 5 November 1834 [bap St. Aldates]

Harriet GIBBONS baptised 17 November 1839 at St. Ebbes

George Alfred GIBBONS born 8 July baptised 18 August 1845

 

Elizabeth [BOYCE] was buried 19 October 1846 at St. Ebbes

 

Henry married Susannah AUCKLAND on 2 September 1847 at St. Giles

The same day his eldest daughter Eliza married George Edward Hern WALKER at St. Ebbes

Susannah was baptised 19 July 1818 at St. Michael’s

He was a Farrier and Blacksmith

He died 19 March 1857 at Oxford Workhouse

 

He married Elizabeth HEDGES on 17 June 1804 at St. Mary Magdalen

 

Their only known surviving child was

Henry GIBBONS baptised 19 July 1805

 

Elizabeth died-a date of 1823 was sent to me in a family tree-any further information on this person would be welcome

 

Baptist married Mary PIERCE on 14 February 1830 at Headington,OXF

 

Their children were

Sarah GIBBONS baptised 1 May 1831

William GIBBONS baptised 17 June 1832

Baptist Hicks GIBBONS baptised 15 June 1834

Thomas GIBBONS baptised 15 January 1836

Mary GIBBONS born circa 1843

[all baptisms at St. Mary Magdalen]

 

In the 1830s the family lived in Pudding Bag Lane and Broad St.

In 1851 they were in the parish of St. Aldates

In 1881 the widowed Mary was living with her unmarried daughter Mary in Speedwell St, St. Ebbes

 

 

 

 AUCKLAND

Charles AUCKLAND married Hannah BOUCHER at St. Peter le Bailey

on 17 August 1817

 

Charles was born 13 May baptised 10 July 1796 at Islington, Middlesex  

He was the son of John AUCKLAND and Susannah WATTS who married on 27 July 1794

at St Mary's, Islington

He was a Carpenter  

He was buried 7 February 1866 aged 70 at St. Giles, Oxford, from the Workhouse

Hannah was baptised 4 June 1790 at Faringdon, Berkshire  

She died 3 July 1868 aged 78 at the Union Workhouse, Headington, Oxford

 

In 1851 they are living in Summertown, St. Clement  

In 1861 they are in Plantation road, St. Giles-the birthplace given for both of them here is Oxford-laziness on their part or the enumerator's?

Susannah AUCKLAND baptised 19 July 1818 at St. Michael’s

George AUCKLAND born circa 1830

 

 BRYDEN

My grandfather Frank BRYDEN married Dorothy Margaret GIBBONS at the parish church Iffley, OXF on 25 July 1936, photo below

Frank was born 14 June 1909 at 182 Howard St.

The photo below was taken in 1912

 

He was educated at SS Mary & John School and worked as a Coach Trimmer for Pressed Steel

During the latter part of WW2 he was in the RAF and served in India and received a Bronze Commemorative Medal from Air Vice Marshal His Highness the Maharajah of Jodhpur

He met Dorothy when she worked as a Nanny to his elder sister.  They lived all their married life at 67 Bullingdon Rd, Iffley

He died 14 May 1985

 

They had 3 children all still living.

Valerie BRYDEN was born 25 May 1942

 

 

 

David BRYDEN married his first wife Annie BUCKINGHAM at the Baptist Chapel, Woodstock, OXF on 6 November 1884  

 

                                   

 

The photo of David as a young man is undated-as an older man he is with his eldest grandchild Kathleen, circa 1922

 

David was born 8 October 1857 at Amisfieldtown, Scotland.

In 1881, he was lodging at Horse Fair, Woodstock

Later, the family lived at 32 St. John’s St. Oxford [see photo below]; The Firs, Wheatley; and finally at 182 Howard St. Oxford

He died September 1929  

 

Annie was born 23 December 1860 

In 1881 she is living at the Rose & Crown pub, Old Woodstock, OXF, with her widowed mother and siblings

She died 17 October 1895 aged 34
