SYKES

In the year 2000, newspapers reported on gene tests carried out by Bryan SYKES of Oxford University-having taken a random DNA sampling of 250 men with the SYKES surname, he concluded that they all descended from a single common ancestor

William SYKES married Dinah IVIN at Quenington on 13 October 1802

William may have been baptised 4 July 1778-the surname in the Quenington Register was difficult to make out, but looked like a mis-spelling of Sykes-the parents were Charles & Elizabeth

He was buried 13 April 1838 aged 66 at Quenington

Dinah was baptised 23 December 1781

In 1841 she still has 3 children at home with her, and Ester/Hester is a Milliner

In 1851 she is living with her son Isaac and is described as a Pauper

Some of the IVINs were Stone masons and worked on St. Swithin’s church
